St. Vincent de Paul – December 2022
Week of December 25: Christmas, the Nativity of the Lord
Today we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, hearing the words of the angel, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy”. Today and throughout the new year, may we take care of our suffering brothers and sisters, bringing hope, not fear.
In the month of December, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the spirit of Christmas to those who are suffering, by assisting families in providing them food, gifts, utilities and rent bills.
*Checks made payable to Society of St. Vincent DePaul and dropped in the collection baskets will help us serve our neighbors in need throughout the Greenlawn area.
Week of December 18th: The Fourth Sunday of Advent
In today’s Gospel, we hear that Jesus will be named Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” The mystery of the birth of Jesus is supremely a mystery of love. May each Christmas find us more and more like him: more humble, more holy, more happy and more full of God.
Your gifts to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul helped those who are poor and suffering to find Emmanuel and they also came to know that “God is with us.”
Week of December 11th: The Thrid Sunday of Advent
In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us that the good news can be seen, touched felt and heard through the lives of God’s people. We are now charged to take up the ministry of Jesus’s, but we can’t just ask people to take our word for it; our actions must speak for us.
Since Christmas is a time of love and gift giving, please share in Jesus ministry by giving a gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that those who are poor can know the good news of Jesus.
Week of December 4th: The Second Sunday of Advent
In today’s Gospel, John the Baptist urges us to “Prepare the way of the Lord.” This is what Advent is all about, for we are called to help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and to reach out to those in need.
Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor to celebrate Christmas.
