St. Vincent de Paul – January 2022 Reflections

Jan 30, 2022 | Social

St Vincent DePaul Society is a Catholic lay organization that leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.

Week of January 30th 2022: Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel today, Jesus shows us that we are called to place gospel values before any other values and to be willing to put our lives on the line for them. Taking care of God’s poor is indeed living gospel values.

Is God is calling you to join the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

*Checks made payable to Society of St. Vincent DePaul and dropped in the collection baskets will help us serve our neighbors in need throughout the Greenlawn area.

Week of January 23rd 2022: Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reads the words of scripture: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.”

In the month of January, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist families by providing them with food, utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You!

Week of January 16th 2022: Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel today, at the wedding feast in Cana, Jesus reveals himself to his disciples and they began to believe in him. Everyday, God also gives us signs of his love and so we also can respond in faith and trust.

Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul becomes a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering, and you give them reason to believe and to trust.

Week of January 9th 2022: The Baptism of the Lord

After Jesus was baptized, he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and a voice was heard “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” As we give to the poor, we also can hear these same words.

As you help those who are suffering, know in your heart the truth of the words “you are my beloved with whom I am well pleased.”

Week of January 2nd 2022: The Epiphany of the Lord

Today we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany, where the Magi find the newborn king and offer him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

In the spirit of the Magi, please put your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box so that comfort and peace can once again be given to a newborn child.

Humanity’s salvation history was forever changed when a poor, devout Jewish girl from Galilee affirmatively said yes to life and set in motion the birth, ministry, sacrificial death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mary’s fiat (“Thy will be done.”) was a gift of love to humanity, given freely in spite of her inability to know all that would entail, but with more faith in the Lord than fear of the unknown.
