“Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done…”

Aug 7, 2020 | Community

Often when we search for outlets for a personal expression of faith either alone or to share with others, we can turn to the ministries here at our parish for inspiration.

The Divine Will Ministry was established at St. Francis of Assisi in May 2004 by a group of parishioners that included Ellen and Mike Lobasso, and Anne and Tom Buckley. There are Divine Will ministries active at many other parishes, but all share a similar mission: to fulfill the desire of Jesus Christ when he prayed in the Our Father: “Thy kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Central to the ministry is studying and discussing the writings of Luisa Piccarreta, Servant of God, known as the Little Daughter of the Divine Will, an author and mystic who lived at the beginning of the 20th century. She was said to partake only of the Blessed Sacrament for sustenance during the last 62 years of her life, and is under consideration for possible canonization as a saint of the Catholic Church.

Most meetings are devoted to reading and discussions about the writings and life of Luisa Piccarreta, and her desire to live within the Lord’s Divine Will. She wrote more than 37 volumes over her lifetime, even though her formal education did not go beyond the first grade, and she remained bedridden for most of her life. Hers is a remarkable story.

The group currently has more than 20 members, and always welcomes anyone wishing to join. Meetings are Thursdays 1-3pm in the lower church, with a smaller meeting on Tuesday mornings at 9:15am, following the 8:30am Mass. For more information please contact Ellen Lobasso at (631) 486-2155, or by email to mrmjl@optonline.net.
