Starfish Coffee House Movie Screening of Fatima

Sep 17, 2020 | Community, Starfish Coffee House

Recently the members of the Starfish Coffee House gathered to watch Fatima. This film tells the story of the 1917 Fatima Marian apparitions and the “Miracle of the Sun”; the Blessed Mother came to three Portuguese children – Lúcia Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto – and asked them to share a message of redemption and salvation with the world.

At the time, Portugal was embroiled in World War I and religious expression and faith were being squelched by the anti-clerical government officials. It is against this backdrop that Lucia and her cousins struggled to deliver the Virgin Mary’s message. However, the power of faith and God’s love -plus a “tiny” miracle in which God made the sun dance- overcame these challenges.

Fatima does an excellent job of showing this while also giving the viewers insight into the personal lives of the seers. We highly recommend watching Fatima to commemorate the Miracle of the Sun on October 13th. We all had a great time watching and discussing this film and then hanging out later to share in fellowship. Our meetings are open to anyone in their 20s and 30s; if you’re looking to make new friends, learn more about the Catholic faith, or have something fun to do on a Friday night feel to stop by. (We also have virtual meetings on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm. Feel free to email us at onestarfishthrower@gmail.com if you’d like more information about the Starfish Coffee House.)
