St. Francis of Assisi Youth Ministry Reaches Out
Just before Christmas, our parish Youth Ministry made a trip to Manhattan to participate in The Breakfast Run, bringing provisions and food for the homeless near Metropolitan Hospital. Even in the opulent surroundings of the upper East Side, the need is great. The group brought warm clothing, toiletries, and hot food, serving eggs and quiche, oatmeal, coffee, and hot chocolate.
Of greater importance was the support and kindness shown by the young people, a foundation of sharing and caring as people on the street are seen as real people, rather than a faceless crowd. And homeless men and women are able to interact with adults and teenagers whose commitments and concerns go beyond their own lives and families.
