From Coffee House to Medjugorje – My First Experience

In September 2022, after graduation from college in May, I was looking for a group to join, having been in one at my school. I learned of the Starfish Coffee House, a young adult group at St. Francis of Assisi parish. I remember my first visit there – it was very crowded, so I decided to sit in the back. During the meeting I heard someone talk about a place in Europe I had never heard of. Europe is a place I’ve always wanted to visit but had not had the chance. An added fact is that I am autistic, which creates a whole host of other challenges. I did not think my parents would want me to travel all the way to Europe with a bunch of people that I had just met.

In March at a Coffee House event, I met Rosie Nelan for the first time. We got to talking about Medjugorje because I had somewhat of an interest in going, and I wanted to sign up before all the spots were taken. I remember being very emotional that night, realizing that I truly did want to go. That evening Rosie allowed me to take a rosary from the Coffee House, one which originally came from Medjugorje. That rosary meant a lot to me. To this day it is a “special” rosary, my favorite rosary to use.

But of course, I procrastinated and another month went by. I became afraid that the spots were all filled up. At another Coffee House event, I spoke with Kelly because this time, I really wanted to go and was even more afraid I had missed the deadline and the spots were all taken. I finally decided to make a move, and told my parents about it. They agreed, and we were able to send the initial deposit. I was on my way to Medjugorje.
