St. Vincent de Paul – July 2022 Reflections

Jul 31, 2022 | Social, St. Vincent de Paul

St Vincent DePaul Society is a Catholic lay organization that leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.

Week of July 31st: Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable about the rich man who selfishly stored all his grain and goods only to die and not enjoy his abundance anyway. What we struggle all our lives to learn is that life does not consist of possessions nor our perceived security, but of being possessed by God.

This week, as you give your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are realizing that in giving you indeed receive.

*Checks made payable to Society of St. Vincent DePaul and dropped in the collection baskets will help us serve our neighbors in need throughout the Greenlawn area.

Week of July 24th: Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel, Jesus teaches us that God is our “Father” and just as a parent’s love for their children is unlimited, so is God’s love and care for us unlimited.

In the month of July, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist families by providing them food, utility, rent bills, etc.  Thank You!

Week of July 17th: Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus affirms that to be a disciple we must also sit at his feet and listen to him.  St. Vincent de Paul taught that it is only in prayer that we can give selfless loving service to those who are poor.

This week, please say a special prayer each day for the poor and forgotten in our parish.

Week of July 10th: Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, when Jesus asks “which of  these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?” the scholar of the law answered, “the one who treated him with mercy.”  Jesus then said, “Go and do likewise.”

This week you can also “treat the poor with mercy” by putting a gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box.

Week of July 3rd: Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel today we see how Jesus sent his Apostles out two by two. In this spirit, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul members “go out two by two” to visit those who are poor and needy in their homes. It is there, in the family setting, that Vincentians listen, offer humble advice, and render assistance.

Know that the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul bring your gift directly to the poor and suffering in our parish.
