Sharing God’s Love as a Volunteer in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Written by George Pozderec

When I retired approximately 29 years ago, I never dreamed I would devote part of my life to helping people whom I didn’t know, and share in their problems and pain.

When Jim Reilly, President, asked me to be a member, I said “yes.” At that time we had less than fifty clients. Today we have over two hundred. After Jim retired I became the President, a position I held for a number of years. It is very fulfilling to help people you don’t know and sharing in their lives.

Some time ago we met an elderly client that needed a turkey and the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. We brought it to her apartment. She wanted to give us some money. We said it was all free. I looked at her as we were leaving and saw that she only had one leg. I still remember her and I continue to pray for her.

It is a great blessing to be able to help those in need and share in their lives!

The St.Francis Conference of the Society of St.Vincent dePaul is always looking for volunteers to hear the cry of the poor and respond to their needs. The commitment is not as much as you’d think!
